Wig-wearing paedophile with 14 names says he’d have raped girl if he hadn’t been interrupted

‘John Baker’ received an extended prison sentence after being branded a dangerous offender

A dangerous paedophile has admitted he would have raped an eight-year-old girl if he had not been interrupted by a school caretaker.

John Baker, 41, who has 13 aliases and wore a wig for his appearance at Hull Crown Court on Thursday, was jailed for five years in 1998 for indecently assaulting the girl after taking her off a school premises in Bradford.

The self-employed removals firm boss was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely, which included a prohibition on him using the internet at home. But after Baker’s lodger reported him for accessing the internet at home, he admitted doing so in the early hours while his partner was asleep.

Police found 363 images at category A – the most serious – 235 at category B, and 342 at category C. There were also 16 prohibited images, although no detail was given of what these were.

Baker told the probation service one image was of an eight-month old baby, but it was not clear if this related to earlier offences.

Claire Holmes, prosecuting, said Baker had used a website which “showed images from all over the world of people of all ages having sex. He saw adults but also saw a number of child sites where he saw young children performing sexual acts.”

Baker admitted “getting excited” but denied getting sexual gratification from the images. He continued viewing them because they continued to excite him, he said.

Baker claimed he had been doing this for three to four months, but Miss Holmes said evidence suggested it had gone on longer. Baker also admitted using computer programmes to conceal his internet usage.

Other names used by Baker included “Sam Turner”. On January 14 last year, Baker, accompanied by his partner, gave his name as Sam Turner when visiting another sex offender in Hull Prison.

He also failed to give details of his other names when attending Osborne Street police station in November 17, 2017, to complete the sex offender registration form.

Baker, of De Grey Street, west Hull, admitted three offences of making indecent photographs, possessing a prohibited image, breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), and failing to comply with his notification requirements as a sex offender. He said he kept changing his name to protect his removals business, which was launched eight years ago.

His 62 previous offences included the indecent assault, possessing indecent photographs and pseudo photographs, and failing to comply with notification requirements.

Describing the circumstances of the assault on the eight-year-old, Judge Mark Bury said: “You had entered a school premises and you led her away. You were to admit to the probation service that had you not been interrupted by the caretaker you would have raped her.”

Referring to a pre-sentence report, the judge told Baker’s barrister, Stephen Robinson: “He’s regarded as a high risk of serious harm to children and a very high risk of further offending.”

Mr Robinson said: “One can understand that conclusion; the defendant even does to a certain extent. He lost both parents within a short space of time. His father died in prison; his mother died of cancer after an illness of six to nine months.

“Following that he was depressed, started to drink then turned to this sort of offending. The defendant bitterly regrets that, he’s sorry for it. He knows he’s let down those around him. He knows he’ll be punished for this and deserves to be.”

Jailing Baker for five years, the judge told him: “I have no doubt at all that you are indeed a dangerous offender and that an extended sentence is warranted.” Baker looked shocked at the length of his sentence and silently mouthed “What?” He said “Love you” to a woman in the public gallery, who began sobbing.

He must serve at least two-thirds of the five years before he can apply for parole, and will be on licence for at least three years on release.

PETER DANIELS -ALDERBURY, WILTSHIRE

Wiltshire man jailed for abusing children

peter-daniels-1549617254-herowidev4-0

A predatory sex offender who abused 22 young children over nine years has been given six life sentences.

Peter Daniels, aged 70, formerly of Alderbury, pleaded guilty to 78 charges, which were carried out between 2008 and 2017 and relate to children who were aged between two and 13 at the time.

He was given prison terms for each of the charges, including six life sentences, which will all run concurrently, and told he will have to serve nine years before being considered for parole.

It follows a lengthy investigation by Wiltshire Police, the biggest child sexual exploitation case in the history of the force, and extensive partnership work with Wiltshire Council and Crown Prosecution Service.

A joint statement from Det Insp Nicki Davey, from Salisbury CID, Jen Salter, head of support and safeguarding, families and children’s services at Wiltshire Council, and Claire Booth, from the CPS, said: “Daniels is a predatory and prolific paedophile who has
spent years grooming not only the children he abused, but also their families and the wider community in Salisbury.

”We would also like to pay tribute to the bravery of the victims in this case. This has been a hugely upsetting and traumatic experience for them and all the relevant agencies are continuing to provide ongoing help and support for them and their families.

”We hope this case will raise awareness about child sexual exploitation, particularly about how to spot the signs of grooming or abuse.

”Also, we hope it reinforces the message that if you have been a victim of any kind of abuse or sexual assault, please tell someone you trust. There is support available and the police will investigate, no matter how long ago it happened.”

FRANK CAIRNEY -SOUTH LANARKSHIRE

Ex-Celtic Boys Club coach jailed over abuse

A former manager of Celtic Boys Club has been jailed for four years after being convicted of nine charges of sexually abusing young footballers.

Sentencing Frank Cairney, the sheriff told the 83-year-old former coach he was a “wolf in sheep’s clothing”.

During his trial the court heard that Cairney’s victims had suffered badly from the abuse, which dated back to the 1980s.

Sheriff Daniel Kelly praised the “courage” of the victims.

Cairney was acquitted of similar charges 20 years ago.

Following his conviction in December, a man who accused Cairney of abusing him in the early 1970s, said justice had finally caught up with the “evil paedophile”.

The man, whose identity is protected under the law, said Cairney had used his standing at Celtic FC to gain access to innocent young boys and abuse them in the most horrible way.

Some of the abuse took place in the dressing room at Celtic Park.

After sentencing he told BBC Scotland, Cairney had been given four years but his victims got a life sentence and they would take their experiences to the grave.

“When I saw him in court in December, he looked evil. I haven’t been able to get that image of him out of my head,” he said.

The man, who is in his late 50s, said he would wanted the authorities to ask if sentences handed down to men like Cairney were sufficient.

“The sentences have to be stricter so that we can protect our vulnerable,” he said.

Cairney is the third former Celtic Boys Club coach to be convicted of child sex abuse in recent months.

In November, Boys Club founder Jim Torbett was jailed for six years, while another coach, teacher Gerald King, was also convicted of abusing boys at a school.

After the conviction of Torbett, Celtic expressed “deep regret” for the victims but stressed the boys club was a separate entity.

The club made a similar statement on Thursday following the conviction of Cairney.

“Although Celtic Football Club is an entirely separate organisation to Celtic Boys’ Club, we wish to express our deep regret that these incidents took place, as well as our sympathy for the victims who suffered abuse,” it said.

“We are grateful for the courage of those who have come forward to report abuse and to give evidence after such a long period of time. We have great respect for them and their families as they continue to cope with the distressing effects of the abuse they suffered”.

The victim of Cairney the BBC spoke to had previously said that when he played for the Boys Club, they were regular visitors to Celtic Park and used to sweep the terraces there.

He said: “Celtic FC have been in denial of the association with the Boys Club. It’s appalling; please stop it.”

COLIN COOPER -MANCHESTER

A predatory paedophile who is serving an 18 year sentence has been jailed for another eight after meeting one of his now grown-up victims in prison.

Screenshot 2019-02-08 at 2.12.57 pm

Colin Cooper, 76, was jailed in 2011 and has been convicted of committing more than 50 sexual offences against 18 children aged between five and 12 during the 1970s and 2000s.

One of his victims, who was under 16 when he was assaulted in the 1970s, has since been locked up himself for raping a young girl and recognised Cooper in prison.

Cooper’s victim, who was said to have ‘felt like a child’ when he realised who he had run into, went back to his cell and broke down in tears.

Cooper, formerly of Wythenshawe and Hattersley in Manchester, was hauled back before the courts and found guilty of yet more historic offences against the man.

Yesterday, Cooper was jailed for eight years after a jury unanimously found him guilty of three counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency with a child, all against the same victim.

That sentence will run alongside his existing 18-year detention period.

The court was told Cooper, previously known as Alan Makinson, is in poor health and could die behind bars.

In a statement read to the court by prosecutor David Bentley, Cooper’s latest victim said: ‘I know he [Cooper] stole my childhood. It has destroyed my life.

‘If a convicted sex offender can open up about my past abuse, I hope it can help others come forward.

‘Some people have the theory that the abused becomes an abuser. And in some cases, they might be right.’

Defending, Stuart Duke said Cooper had been a ‘prolific offender’ in Wythenshawe.

Mr Duke said there was a ‘real possibility’ Cooper would die in prison. Cooper continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Mr Duke said: ‘As far as rehabilitation is concerned, the prospect isn’t rosy.’

The court heard Cooper would entice his victims with money and gifts and would target the vulnerable.

At a previous hearing Manchester Crown Court heard how Cooper forced some victims to eat raw meat from pigs’ heads when they tried to escape his clutches.

Previously Cooper was jailed for three years in 1986 after admitting a string of child sex crimes, including rape.

He changed his name, moved address, and continued to prey on vulnerable youngsters.

Judge Timothy Smith explained he was constrained in his sentencing powers due to the most recent offences being charged under the laws applicable in the 1970s.

He told Cooper: ‘You are a compulsive, manipulative and predatory paedophile.’

Referring to the meeting in prison, the judge added: ‘In the course of that chance encounter following some exploration of matters, he realised that you were his abuser.

‘That only became clear when he told you what your name was at the time, that being Alan Makinson, you since having changed your name.

‘His reaction to that was that he felt like a child and went back to his cell and broke down crying.’

The court was told the victim said he would ‘never get over’ what Cooper had done to him.

After the hearing, Detective Constable Joanna Gordon, of GMP’s Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: ‘Colin Cooper took advantage of a young child to satisfy his own depraved desires and prison is where he belongs.

‘I hope that today’s result sends a clear message to victims of historic sexual abuse- no matter how much time has passed – we will do everything in our power to bring perpetrators to justice for these horrific crimes.

‘Victims have to live with the trauma of these crimes for a large part of their life and I’d encourage anyone who has suffered previously to please come forward and get the support they need.’

PETER CURD -PLYMOUTH

Pervert caught in the act by paedophile hunters walks free from court

Married dad Peter Curd, aged 29, avoids jail for trying to send online sex messages to women posing as underage girls

A pervert has avoided jail for trying to send sex messages to underage girls – before he was snared by paedophile hunters.

Married dad Peter Curd sent pornographic pictures to social media users he believed to be 13 and 14 years old, a jury decided.

He was in fact in contact with adult women who were part of a group called Predator HunTers looking to flush out online paedophiles, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Curd, aged 29, even arranged to meet one of the decoys but failed to turn up at the meeting point – as members of the group lay in wait to grab him.

Handing him a suspended prison sentence, Judge James Townsend said: “These were determined attempts by you to obtain sexual gratification through your explicit communication with the girls, whom you believed to be under 16.

“You requested to see the girls’ private parts and also you sent at least one picture of your genitals.”

But the judge added that sending Curd to prison would not give enough time for him to complete sex offender treatment.

The maximum jail term for the relatively new offence is just two years.

Curd, of Colwill Road, Estover, went on trial for three days in December after claiming that someone had hacked his phone and tried to frame him.

But a jury saw through his far-fetched story and convicted him of two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child between June 4 and June 25 2017.

Two women from Predator HunTers posed as a 13-year-old called Chelsea Breckon and Zoe Jones, aged 14, on dating site Waplog and messaging app Kik.

Curd used a series of different phones to send them sexually explicit pictures including a man performing an indecent act.

He also sent the decoys a picture of his face.

Both women said within the first few messages that they were teenage girls, the court heard.

Curd arranged a meeting with the woman posing as the younger girl at a retail park near Hereford.

He failed to show up as Predator HunTers waited to detain him and call the police.

The group handed the details to officers – who were able to trace him to Plymouth through phone records.

Jason Beal, for Curd, said his client continued to protest his innocence. The court heard he and his partner had a child together and he had two step-children through her previous relationship.

He said that the meeting in Hereford was a “fantasy” and he never took any steps to make the trip.

The barrister added that Curd, who had been the main breadwinner for his family had lost his job because of the conviction.

Mr Beal said that Curd was willing to work with probation.

Judge Townsend said that sending him to prison would not give him enough time to complete his sex offender treatment.

He added: “The result would be that upon your release you would pose a greater danger of re-offending in my judgement.”

The judge handed Curd an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, with sex offender treatment. He must also do 120 hours unpaid work.

Curd was also given a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order which will limit his access to children and allow police to monitor his internet use.

He must sign the Sex Offender Register for the same period.

JAMES MILBURN -WASHINGTON, TYNE & WEAR

Rapist who planned to work as children’s holiday entertainer in Spain jailed

A MAN who was jailed for raping a young girl was reportedly planning to work as a childrens’ entertainer in Mallorca.

According to British press, Durham Crown Court heard that James Milburn, 19, did a stint working on the island, and on his return to England said that he planned to return to work as a kids’ holiday rep.

But, during this time, the mother of his victim reported the rape to the police.

Shaun Dodds, prosecuting, reportedly said Milburn flew from Leeds Bradford Airport to Palma, on discovering he was being investigated,

But family members urged him to return and he was arrested by police at the airport when he landed.

Milburn apparently made no comment to police questions but, after the case was sent to the crown court, he admitted a charge of rape.

Liam O’Brien, defending, told the court there was nothing he could say to ‘diminish the pain and suffering of the victim in this case and that of her family’.

He said Milburn ‘was old enough to know right from wrong’.

Judge Jonathan Carroll imposed a six-year and nine-month custodial sentence and made Milburn subject to registration as a sex offender for life.

DAVID BIBBY -MANCHESTER

Businessman who joined online peado ring to watch boys being raped avoids jail

David Bibby, 53, from Manchester viewed images of a toddler being tied up and subjected to an obscene act

A businessman who joined an online peado ring to watch young boys being raped has walked free from court.

David Bibby of Manchester avoided jail after he claimed he had been trying to get over a break-up with his boyfriend.

The 53-year-old who was said to have a “‘disturbing sexual interest in children” was tracked down by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

DHS had been investigating a child abuse racket operating on a conference call video facility involving sex offenders based in America when they caught Bibby.

Over a four month period between August and December in 2016, Bibby logged onto the file sharing application Zoom.

He was known by the username ‘UKCockBoy’, and accessed it with the intention of watching and downloading sex videos of children.

Bibby found a group which shared and distributed the images and and in which 25 perverts would look at the images at any one time.

He sent a message to another member of the gang saying: “Somebody told me there were good videos on here.”

Bibby who was seen to be naked in one of his visits, viewed images of a boy being raped and a toddler being tied up and being subjected to an obscene act. He was arrested 11 months later in November 2017.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Bibby pleaded guilty to watching and downloaded indecent images of children. He said the offences had occurred after he began drinking heavily after breaking up with his long-term partner.

Screenshot 2019-02-06 at 6.07.04 pm

Prosecuting, Mark Kellet, said: “There was a total of 24 moving images, of which five were category B and 19 were category A. The offending happened over a period of four months between August 1 and December 21 2016.

“This was investigation was undertaken by the Department of Homeland Security in the USA. From the outset, the investigation started in October 2015 and concluded in February 2017 and his offending was within a four month period in that time, and an examination of his Toshiba laptop shows no other offending.

“But these are very serious and distressing images. In terms of that operation in the USA, it investigated a file sharing facility called Zoom. The legitimate use for this facility is video conferences and file sharing, but it has been used by paedophile groups.

“The defendant deliberately went into a closed group, and the agency investigating this made it clear that this group is incredibly difficult to gain access to. Among the moving images, it showed the anal and oral rape of numerous children under four.

“The defendant logged in under the username of UKCockBoy and saw the anal rape of male boys and digital penetration of a child. He was present in the Zoom chat room with other people.

“On another occasion, the defendant was visible and naked and he was watching a video of a toddler that was tied up. On the third occasion there was 25 people present looking at photographs of pre-pubescent males.

“There was a child in another video, aged between four and six, being raped and there was a child, aged between nine and 12, being raped.

“His involvement was shared with the National Crime Agency and he was arrested in November 2, 2017, and it showed chat logs and messages which showed his involvement. In a message, he said ‘Somebody told me there were good videos on here.’

“In a police interview, he said that this was a difficult time for him and that he had been drinking a lot. He also said that he had been in counselling for his interest in children. The offence is very different from going on porn websites, it shows the sexual exploitation of children. He is clearly a man who has a disturbing sexual interest in children.”

Mitigating, Max Saffman, said: “There are no children in his life; he has no children himself and his nieces and nephews are in their 20s. He had no contact with children at all.

“In his interview, he co-operates with the police and he pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. He’s a relatively remarkable man previously.

“This happened after his relationship between him and his long-term partner broke down. His ex long term partner is here in court with him.

“His activity on the chat room stopped 11 months before the police came to his door. He has been counselled on this and it came as a shock to him when his past caught up with him. He is incredibly ashamed with his behaviour.”

Sentencing Bibby to a three year community order, Judge Maurice Greene said: “You logged into a conferencing facility where particularly nasty films involving violence and rape of children were being shown and streamed, and you watched these moving images and downloaded as well.

“There are a relatively small number of images, but this is aggravated by the fact that there was a number of other people logging on, so this was a targeted facility for watching these images.

“You pleaded at the first opportunity and there has been a delay, through no fault of your own, in the proceedings. You also stopped watching these images of your own accord.

“It’s quite clear that you accept and you are seeking help with that. I am going to follow the recommendation of the pre-sentence report and give you a three year community order.”

Bibby – who is involved an electronics engineering company – was additionally given a five year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to complete 50 days of rehabilitation activities.
